Funding has been allocated by the Department of Education through the Additional Accommodation and Emergency Works Scheme to provide two additional classrooms for St Hilda’s Special School on Grace Park Road in Athlone.
Tenders for the construction of the extra rooms will now be sought.
The news has been welcomed by Athlone-based Senator, Gabrielle McFadden.
“This is great news for the students and management of the school,” Senator McFadden said. “The next stage is to seek tenders, and each stage that passes brings us one step nearer to the day when the students of St Hilda’s will sit in new classrooms.
“This and other projects sanctioned recently in Athlone also demonstrates the commitment of the Government to targeted investment where it is most needed, as the nation’s finances begin to improve. Great credit is due to the board of management and the principal and all who are working to provide the best possible facilities for the students of St Hilda’s.”
