The woman accused of threatening behaviour and assault at St Loman’s hospital has refused to go back there.
Judge John Neilan offered the woman bail on her criminal charges on condition that she remain at St Loman’s until formally discharged.
A psychiatrist from the Central Mental Hospital told the court that the 32-year-old patient does know what she’s doing and is responsible for her actions.
However she added that the woman, whose address is given as St Loman’s Hospital, “does have difficulties and does need inpatient care”.
The judge had also advised that Gardaí be notified if and when the woman was being discharged.
She had previously been remanded to Mountjoy Prison and was then transferred to the Central Mental Hospital where she is receiving help.
However, after consultation with her patient in private, the doctor returned to the court and advised Judge Neilan that she would not sign the bail bond.
“The only order I can make if she refuses is to send her back to Mountjoy,” replied the judge.
“That’s her wish if given the choice between there and St Loman’s.”
He returned her to Mountjoy Women’s Prison, also known as The Dóchas Centre where the Governor will decide if she is to be returned to the Central Mental Hospital.
