This year’s St Patrick’s Day Festival was officially launched last Wednesday night (February 22 ) in the Shamrock Lodge Hotel, with an expanded programme of events planned to include a new-look parade, extensive programme of music and entertainment, and colourful displays around the town.
The organising committee would like to thank all those businesses and individuals who have donated to their fundraising campaign so far, in particular major sponsors Custom Cuts, Kin Khao Thai restaurant, Supermac’s, Cllr Kevin ‘Boxer’ Moran, Shannon Academy of English, and the Midlands Business Network.
They are also most grateful to Westmeath County Council for all their support and their allocation of €5,000 in funding towards the event.
This year’s committee launched a major fundraising campaign in recent weeks to help create a spectacular celebration for the town this March 17. More than €5,000 has been raised so far through a Go Fund Me fundraising page, www.gofundme.com/stpatricksdayathlone
Local businesses and individuals are encouraged to donate whatever they can afford, in order to help make these fantastic plans a reality. Anyone interested in getting involved or becoming a volunteer on the day, can contact the committee on (085 ) 8277409, through their Facebook page ‘St Patrick’s Day Festival Athlone’.
