Community groups to receive saplings during National Tree Week

Tree Week runs from March 5-12. Organised by the Tree Council of Ireland, it has been running since 1985 in association with Coillte, local authorities, and sponsor Applegreen.

National Tree Week is a week-long programme of events to celebrate trees, their beauty and their benefits, and the theme for 2017 is ‘Be a force of nature’. This national event will be launched on Sunday, March 5 in the Botanic Gardens, Dublin.

As part of National Tree Week local communities can apply for free saplings for their community.

To place your order in Westmeath, email [email protected] or phone (044 ) 9349060 by 5pm on Tuesday, February 28. Orders will not be accepted after this date.

Saplings will be available for collection at Belvedere House, Gardens and Park, Mullingar from Monday, March 6 from 9.30am to 6pm daily. The last date for collection will be Sunday, March 12 and any orders not collected by then will be re-distributed.

A guided woodland walk led by Diarmuid McAree will be held from 2-4pm on Saturday, March 11 at Belvedere House, Garden & Parks. Normal admission rates will apply but there will be no extra charge for the guided walk. The event is weather dependent and suitable warm clothing and footwear is advised.
