Midlands Astronomy Club will be setting up their high powered telescopes in the courtyard of Athlone Castle on Saturday, October 19, from 8pm until 11pm.

This is a free event open to the public and suitable for all ages. Star gazers will receive a guided tour of the night sky by Midland’s Astronomy Club members. During the event a free lecture will be delivered by Emmet Mordaunt of Midlands Astronomy Club, in the lower keep of the castle entitled ‘A Tour of the Solar System’. The lecture will be starting at 8.30pm. Members of the astronomy club will also be on hand to answer questions.

Carmel Duffy, manager of Athlone Arts and Tourism, said: “We are delighted to welcome the Midlands Astronomy Club back to Athlone Castle for what has now become quite a regular event. We advise everyone attending on the night to wrap up warm, enjoy a hot cup of tea or coffee from our café, and have a brilliant time viewing the night sky.”
