Dún na Sí to benefit from Community Service Programme – O’Brien

Independent councillor Michael O’Brien has welcomed the news that Dún na Sí is to be considered for key staff supports under the Community Service Programme operated by Pobal.

Minister for Social Protection Leo Varadkar has confirmed that Dún na Sí has been forwarded to Pobal for engagement on their proposals. Pobal, a government body which provides funding and resources for community projects, will be asking each of the successful companies to attend their first mentoring and support session, due to take place in November.

“Those behind Dún na Sí Amenity & Heritage Park had become concerned in recent times over future funding and staffing models, while they were also worried about volunteer burnout,” explained Cllr O’Brien.

“I understand that staffing concerns will be addressed that will enable the park to continue to thrive and maintain its key role in a range of tourist and amenity projects.

“I also want to thank Deputy Kevin ‘Boxer’ Moran for all his help and assistance in ensuring a positive outcome. Deputy Moran met with Minister Varadkar in recent weeks to advance the cause of Dún na Sí and this week’s news is most welcome,” said Cllr O’Brien.
