Last Saturday’s Family Fun Day fundraiser for Seamus Meade, held in St Kieran’s Community Centre, was a great success and the committee would like to thank everyone who helped out with organising the day. More than €4,000 was raised from the event.
Fundraising efforts are continuing to help send local man Seamus, who has Motor Neuron Disease, abroad for treatment.
The next event will be a bag pack in Dunne’s Stores, Irishtown this Friday and Saturday, September 2 and 3. If you would like to help out and could spare an hour or two please contact (086 ) 2537882 for more information.
Pilate classes with Olive Keyes will take place in the Regional Sports Centre on Tuesday, September 6. There will be three group sessions from 6-7pm, 7-8pm, and 8-9pm. Tickets cost €10, or more by donation if preferred. Please book early as places are limited, by calling (087 ) 2304195.
A music night is planned for the Shamrock Lodge Hotel on Thursday, September 8 starting at 9pm. Please support.
On Saturday, September 10 an art exhibition and sale by local artists who have donated their work will take place in Athlone Towncentre, beside M&S. Thanks to the Towncentre management for facilitating this event and to Mast Insurance Company for covering this event free of charge; also to local artists Rosemary Langtry and Rose Finnerty for organising it.
The Athlone Rotary Club are hosting a gala concert in the Radisson Blu Hotel on Friday, September 16 at 8pm. It is directed by local lyric baritone Darren O’Hara who will be accompanied on piano by Lupe Alvarez Toledo. Other acts will include soprano Breda O’Connor, Petrova Mulvey, The Celtic Blondes, and many more. Proceeds will be in aid of St Hilda’s Services and the Seamus Meade Treatment Fund. Tickets priced €20, concession €15, are available from Rotary Club members and the Coffee Dock.
The Rotary Club will be bringing out a catalogue for this event and are asking local businesses to sponsor it as a further fundraiser. A full-page advertisement costs €100 and you will get two complimentary tickets for the concert, or a half-page ad for €60 plus one complimentary ticket. September 17 promises to be a nostalgic evening in the Shamrock Lodge Hotel. Organised by the Down Memory Lane group, this gathering and reunion of local people returning from abroad will include a classic buffet and music. Tickets cost €15 each.
