In a landmark moment for Baysports, Hodson Bay, and the Midlands region, a representative from the Guinness Book of World Records arrived on Saturday, June 18, and confirmed that Baysports is now the home of the world’s tallest floating slide.
The official adjudicator for Guinness World Records, Mr Jack Brockbank, spent more than an hour measuring and confirming the dimensions of the new round tower slide before presenting the highly coveted official certificate to Richie O'Hara, owner and operator of Baysports.
“We have endeavoured to improve our offering every year, and our latest addition not only adds to the thrill of the park but also helps to focus attention on this region and the multiplicity of offerings that visitors can find here,” according to Mr O'Hara.
“The richness of our history and landscape is something everyone in this country should be proud of and the opportunity to present it in an ecologically friendly and sustainable way for visitors and locals alike to enjoy is something we are delighted to be part of.”
Standing at more than 12.5 metres tall, this slide is no lightweight. While it sits no deeper than 3cm in the water, it weighs more than two tons in total and many people have second thoughts about launching themselves off the top when they have ascended the five-stage climb.
The slide and the park is only five minutes outside of Athlone town and offers a fantastic day out for all the family with its complementary range of family pedal boats, rides on kayaks, SUP boards, and all things water-based. Family fun in the centre of Ireland is a day out at Baysports.
