The annual Drum 6k Run is being held this Saturday, May 28, from Drum Parish Hall at 2pm. This year a 10k run has also been introduced for the more competitive athlete.
The event is been organised by the fundraising committee of Ardkeenan National School in Drum. Each year the school donates a percentage of the funds to a worthy cause which is close at heart to the community, and this year the money will go towards the purchase of AED machines for the community.
This cause was highlighted to the fundraising committee following an information evening in the local GAA club, Clan Na Gael, which raised the vital importance of Community Defibulator (AED ) schemes, and having individuals trained in the community.
Currently in the Drum locality there is one AED machine located at the Clan Na Gael clubhouse. A number of fundraising events are being held to purchase two additional AED machines which will be located at Drum Church and Drum Community Centre.
The money donated by Ardkeenan NS will go towards buying training equipment and providing training to the willing community and club individuals.
