Stars of the pitch immortalised in paint

An unveiling of a different type occurred last Thursday night (December 17 ) when a specially commissioned painting by Chris Flicker was unveiled by Buccaneers’ head coach Brett Wilkinson.

The splendid painting features five young Buccs players who have all played on various Ireland teams. The ‘famous five’ – Robbie Henshaw, Jack Carty, Danny Qualter, Saba Meunargia, and Eoghan O’Reilly – all attended the event, which proved a most enjoyable occasion in the club’s Lower Deck at The Bounty.

Welcoming a sizeable gathering, club president Joe Browne highlighted the investment in the upgraded excellent facility which should be of viable commercial use to both the club and The Bounty as well as being a home there primarily for Buccaneers’ underage players. He thanked all involved in transforming this facility, particularly Yvonne O’Shea, and he complimented the artist on the vibrant painting. Buccaneers is a club, steeped in history, that doesn’t stand still, and he hoped that The Lower Deck would prove a busy place in the future.
