The Book of Evidence has been served on Conor Farrell, 94 Abbeylands, Mullingar who is accused of threatening to kill or seriously harm a member of the Garda Síochána.
He is also accused of possession of two knives at Grange Crescent on March 18.
Inspector Jarlath Folan said the DPP had directed that Mr Farrell’s case be sent forward to the Circuit Court for trial or for sentencing in the event that the court received a signed guilty plea.
He did not object to bail, but a condition was imposed that he reside at his address until the process is complete.
The court heard that other charges may be added to the indictment.
Mr Farrell’s case was adjourned to the April sitting of Mullingar Circuit Court which will sit in Tullamore.
