Athlone doodler needs your vote by Friday

A 15-year-old Athlone student is looking for the public’s support in her quest to be crowned Ireland’s top doodler.

Aibhlin Clabby from Our Lady’s Bower, Athlone is in with a chance of being named Ireland’s top doodler in the Doodle 4 Google competition, and having her doodle displayed on the Google Ireland homepage.

The public vote closes this Friday for the annual competition where children create their own designs using the Google logo. A record 5,000 entries were received and have been whittled down to just 75.

Aibhlin’s doodle is entitled ‘Bháratíya Saphárí - The Indian Safari’, and is one of 15 finalist in Group 5. In her own words, “My doodle depicts ‘My Perfect Day’ on an Indian Safari under the hot sun, mesmerised by the shimmering golden tones of the giraffes’ and tigers’ coats. The long hair of the mandrill sways gracefuly as the slimy snake slithers through the intricate branches of the flat-topped tree.”

The overall winning doodler will have their doodle featured on the Google.ie homepage for a full day in April 2015. They will also receive a €5,000 scholarship towards their third level studies, a Chromebook laptop, and a €10,000 technology grant for their school. Each of the five class group winners and their teachers will also be presented with a Chromebook each.
