As part of Seachtain na Gaeilge, Athlone Community Radio 88.4 FM in association with Bhí Mé Anseo Publications and with support from Conradh na Gaeilge will host Rac agus Filíocht in the Aiden Heavey Public Library, Athlone.
Taking place today Thursday March 5 at 6pm this event will feature poets and musicians performing as Gaeilge a mix of both original and other people’s works. The occasion will be recorded on the night by Athlone Community Radio for future broadcast.
Organiser Eugene McGivern from Bhí Mé Anseo Publications is hoping to persuade librarian Gearóid Ó Brien to read on the day!

Then on Friday March 6 the station will broadcast a special two hour live show from Our Lady’s Bower secondary school. Under the guise of Raidió an Ghrianán Mhuire, the transition year students, with guidance from Irish teacher Mr Joe Keating, will present a show that will feature interviews, music, live musicians, poetry, and much, much more, all as Gaeilge.
