ASPCA launches €10 cat neutering scheme

With cat breeding season just starting Athlone Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA ) has launched its spring 2015 cat neuter scheme in Athlone.

For a donation of €10 a cat owner can get their male or female cat neutered at the two participating vet practices in Athlone: Athlone Vet Clinic and Athlone Vet Hospital. The vet practices have very kindly given the ASPCA a charity discount on the operations.

The ASPCA has initially committed €6,000 for this scheme.

Last year in Athlone the ASPCA neutered 315 cats; despite this there were still a lot of kittens born that had no homes to go to.

Most of these were dumped in car parks, outside schools, shops, and housing estates, with many of them starving, getting sick, or being killed by road traffic.

All you have to do is ring one of the two vet practices and book your cat in for the operation: Athlone Vet Clinic, Connaught Street, on (090 ) 6492623 or Athlone Vet Hospital, Bonavalley, on (090 ) 6474020.
