Country Boy opens this Sunday

Athlone Little Theatre starts its run of the popular John Murphy play The Country Boy this Sunday. The play has been staged in various venues throughout the Midlands over the last couple of weeks and has received a rapturous reception. Standing ovations have been received in every venue.

The play tells a story of Eddie Maher, a returning Irish emigrant who comes home to his homestead with his brash American wife Julia. The tales he tells of life in America seem to unravel over time and gives a truer picture of what life is really like for an Irish emigrant during the 1950s in the USA. Jason Gill and Anne Hoey play the parts of Eddie Maher and Julia. They are both fantastic in these roles. Dermot McManus plays Curly, the younger brother of Eddie, who has his sights set on emigrating himself - but at what cost? Ruth Benson plays Eileen Tierney, the girlfriend of Curly, and it is quite clear that she does not want him to go. Who will prevail?

The cast is completed by Clive Darling and Tina O’Hara, who play Mr and Mrs Maher, the parents of Eddie and Curly. This is one of the finest casts assembled in many a year and they are sure to delight Athlone audiences with this wonderful John Murphy gritty comic tale. Paddy Martin directs and undoubtedly the finished product is one not to be missed.

The play runs from Sunday to Friday November 9-14, and the curtain is up at 8pm. Booking is at (090 ) 6474324 and this is definitely one where early booking is recommended, so as not to be disappointed.
