Latest edition of Midlands Arts and Culture Magazine launched

An abundance of artistic talent from Westmeath features in the latest edition of the twice-yearly Midlands Arts and Culture Magazine.

Hot on the heels of a colourful and diverse range of activities for Westmeath Culture night 2014, the latest edition of the Midlands Arts and Culture Magazine is about to hit the shelves locally. Now on its 22nd edition, this magazine has gone from strength to strength serving as a platform for a wide variety of cultural adventures across the Midlands. Every artistic endeavour from dance to theatre, from poetry to painting, from sculpting to film-making is featured. Emerging artists in the Midlands are given a platform to talk about their projects while established authors, playwrights and artists are busy making an impact nationally and internationally.

This latest edition welcomes a new editor in Vivienne Clarke and features writer Manchán Magan, who tackles the argument that the Midlands is not the cultural lost space, as it is sometimes referred to. Westmeath readers will be interested in dance artist Robyn Byrne’s (cover image ) achievements both nationally and internationally, Gordon Wycherley’s honest and insightful observations on the role of a film locations manager, and Ruth Illingworth’s charming piece on the artistic wonders housed in Mullingar Cathedral. There is much afoot in the other Midland counties with a profile on Fabulous Beast Dance Theatre in Longford, Leaves Literary Festival in Laois, and what Offaly’s Paddy Slattery has to say about the Galway Film Fleadh.

The Midlands Arts and Culture Magazine is free and available from your local library, arts venue, local authority, and selected shops/cafes across the Midlands.
