Early visitors to Belvedere House and Gardens last Sunday morning could make little sense of the scenes they witnessed as the place seemed to be full of nuns.
But all became clear when it was explained that it was Mullingar Charity Variety Group doing some filming and photo shoots for their forthcoming musical Nunsense. This hilarious musical comedy is all about the Sisters of Hoboken when they stage a variety show of their own talents to raise money to bury their dearly departed members of their convent. Their departure was due to them tasting Sister Julia, Child Of God’s, soup and now the remaining nine nuns need funds to bury them, all 52 of their departed sisters.
With snappy songs and great humour this musical is for the young and not so young. Mullingar Park Hotel will host the play from Wednesday January 21 to Saturday January 24, with tickets sold out already for the Friday and Saturday night.
Tickets are on sale at the Mullingar Park Hotel reception and Wilfs of Castle Street Mullingar.
Set construction and painting are reaching the final phase and rehearsals are reaching fever pitch.
Proceeds from this year’s show and draw will go to the Mullingar Stroke Unit, Irish Wheelchairs Association, Killucan Community Creche, North Westmeath Hospice, and Curraghmore School.
