Renowned Irish folk artist Mick Hanly will play Gibbons’ Pillar House in Ballinasloe tonight, August 15.
With concerts lined up on a monthly basis, The Pillar House Folk Club has had two very successful concerts to date.
The folk club is an intimate venue seating a maximum of 80 patrons ensuring an up close and personal evening of entertainment. The folk club’s third date tonight with Mick Hanly promises to be a real treat for fans of Irish folk music.
An acclaimed singer/songwriter Mick Hanley has played and recorded with bands Monroe and Moving Hearts. After the break-up of Moving Hearts he concentrated on songwriting and released his first album Still Not Cured. Three songs from this album became radio hits: Still Not Cured, ‘The Silence’, and ‘Sorry What I Said’.
Soon after, Mick was back touring with his new band, Rusty Old Halo.
Mick has written a number of songs which have featured on Mary Black’s albums - but the stand out one, which was to eventually launch his career in the US, ‘Past the Point of Rescue’, was released on Mary Black’s No Frontiers album of 1989.
Mick also recorded this on his All I Remember album and it was subsequently picked up and recorded in Nashville by the American country artist Hal Ketchum in 1991. Within a few short months it became one of the most played and requested songs on the 2,500 country music stations across the US.
Today, Mick Hanly has a new album on release, Warts and All. His new material together with a comprehensive back catalogue ensure that Mick Hanly is recognised as one of the country’s finest singer/songwriters.
