Gardaí in Mullingar are seeking help in finding a burglar who forced his way into an elderly woman’s house, pushed her to the ground, and made off with her handbag.
The cowardly theft occurred between 5 and 5.30pm last Friday afternoon (July 25 ) when an unidentified man came to the woman’s house in Ballinea on the pretext of looking for his dog.
She refused him entry, but he went to a window and tried to force it. When this failed, he returned to the front door and tried to kick it in.
Failing again, he returned to the original window, and finally forced it to gain access.
He knocked the woman - who is in her late 70s - to the ground, took her handbag, and made off through the window.
Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses who may have seen a strange car, or anything suspicious in the area on the day in question to contact them on (044 ) 9384000.
