Mullingar Rugby Club is to host its annual summer party at the clubhouse tomorrow, Saturday August 2 from 5pm until late.
This is to mark the end of another successful tag summer, which finished yesterday (Thursday ), and the start of the 2014-15 season, training for which begins next week.
The white collar boxing tournament planned for the night has had to be postponed due to insurance issues.
However, organisers have managed to come up with a reasonable compromise, and there will be an inflatable boxing ring, and an inflatable bungee run to entertain the masses.
The afternoon kicks off at 3pm with a six-team special needs tag tournament, which will then be followed by an adult tournament, comprising 22 teams.
Longford band ‘Junk Dog’ will entertain from 9 to 11pm, before the DJ takes over, and a barbeque will be in operation throughout.
Taking an idea from the Midnight 7s in Tullamore RFC last weekend, camping is to be permitted on the grounds, and admission is just €10 per person.
The following Saturday the club is hosting a race day at Kilbeggan, where there will be a competition for the best dressed lady.
Admission tickets cost €20, and include entry to the club’s prize draw for autumn international tickets, and a top prize of €1,500.
Numbers for this night are already growing, with the news that a 40-strong stag party from Terenure RFC is to attend.
In other news, the club has been chosen to take part in Tesco’s community fund programme along with St Loman’s GAA and Mullingar Hockey Club.
During the six-week campaign, customers will be given a community fund token with each transaction, and will be asked to vote by placing that token into their chosen local good cause’s collection cylinder at the front of the store.
The club would appreciate your support by donating your Tesco community tokens to Mullingar RFC.
Also, Mullingar are hosting the annual summer rugby development camp for players born 2000-2003 from Tuesday August 5 to Friday August 8.
If you would like to book a place in the camp, please text Alexis on (087 ) 8524291 or email [email protected].
