Specsavers Ireland recently announced its commitment to raise €100,000 over the next year for Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital, Crumlin to renovate the hospital’s ophthalmology unit. To kick off the partnership, Specsavers Mullingar along with Specsavers stores nationwide cycled the circumference of Ireland (5,600kms ) recently, with Specsavers Mullingar raising over €1,600.
Specsavers Mullingar quite literally put their wheels in motion earlier this month, as they held a static cycle in-store to raise funds. The store’s bike was kindly donated by local bike shop Outdoor Escape and customers who dropped into the Pearse Street store on the day supported the team in completing their 120km section of the cycle. There was a fantastic effort made by the entire Specsavers Mullingar team, who succeeded in cycling the target of 120km on the day.
Last year 2,894 children from County Westmeath attended Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital, Crumlin, meaning there were on average 8 admissions each day from the county.
Elaine McGovern, director of Specsavers Mullingar, said: “We are delighted to be working with Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital, Crumlin as our Specsavers Ireland charity of the year. We have always admired the fantastic work it does for children across Ireland. The idea of a static cycle covering the distance around Ireland was borne out of desire to get all of our staff members really involved with the fundraising process. We hope that through their fantastic commitment, and the support of our customers, that we can achieve our goal of raising €100,000.”
