A Mullingar businessman has just been chosen as poster boy for the latest Bank of Ireland business support campaign known as Enterprise Week.
Ged O’Leary (44 ), who grew up at the family home at Lynn Cross, but who now lives in Summerhill, Co Meath, is the director of Pet Treats in Clonmellon.
This enterprise has managed one of the greatest comebacks in local business after a devastating fire gutted his 1,600 sqm (18,000sq ft ) premises on the Meath-Westmeath border just 12 months ago.
The firm had to let go 35 people at the time, having grown to this size from inauguration in 1995, but has almost managed to return to full strength, and now employs a total of 20 people.
“For me it’s about getting tails wagging in the UK,” said the entrepreneur, who also exports his range of pet chews and dog treats to Holland, Denmark, and Finland as well.
Ged would be no stranger to the business world, as his late father Ted owned the former Tailteann Textiles beside the hospital in Mullingar for years, and his older brother Michael is CEO of Ryanair.
Enterprise Week is a bi-annual event run by Bank of Ireland where it offers assistance to Irish businesses by “providing expertise in growth sectors, helping business embrace the digital age, facilitating networking and supporting the communities in which we work” at a series of seminars and credit clinics across the nation.
