Seminar on New Expressions of Faith and Community

Following on from last year’s midland event, another seminar on the topic of ‘New Expressions of Faith and Community’ is being held on Thursday May 8 at 8pm in the Harp Room, Greville Arms Hotel in Mullingar. One of the key speakers this year is Fr Oliver McCrossan of the Columban order who has over 20 years experience of establishing and supporting Base Christian Communities in RC parishes in the Philippines.

Patrick Daly, who lives with his three daughters near Mullingar, feels that the ‘Base Christian Community’ model could provide an alternative and exciting new context for people, especially those from a Catholic - Irish context, to re-engage in faith and community expression.

“The Base Christian Communities reflect something of the earliest communities as recorded in the New Testament, where believer friends gathered around a communal meal, broke bread, prayed, and committed to the teaching of the early apostles,” he says.

Patrick has a desire to see a modern expression of such communities in the Midlands. He is in the early stages of forming a community in the Mullingar area and hopes that others will get involved at this early stage. An advisory network is being formed to assist in the formation of the community.
