The problem of people leaving their cars all day in one of Mullingar’s residential streets may have to be addressed by introducing parking permits.
Locals may have to pay €25 each for a residents permit, after the council concluded it may not be good value for money to put a ticketing machine at each end of the road.
Two machines would cost in the region of €11,000, the town manager told the meeting of Mullingar Town Council.
Declan Leonard said the council didn’t believe it would get a return on this investment.
The issue was raised in a motion put forward by Cllr Aidan Davitt, who said people availing of free all-day parking before going to work was a nuisance to residents.
Cllr Bill Collentine agreed, saying that people living there can’t actually park outside their own homes.
The issue is to be raised again at a future meeting of the town council.
