What do you know about Alzheimer’s disease? For many people, it is perceived as an ‘old person disease’. Those who know something about Alzheimer’s have generally been exposed to the disease at some personal level, either through a family member or relative living with it or the experience of a friend or colleague.
Due to an increasingly ageing population, the number of people with dementia in Ireland is expected to rise from the current level of 42,000 to almost 150,000 over the next 25 years or so.
The Alzheimer Society of Ireland (Westmeath branch ) in conjunction with Whelehans Pharmacy will be hosting a dementia and Alzheimer’s talk in the Greville Arms Hotel on Wednesday April 2 at 7pm. The event is free of charge and all are welcome.
A number of expert guest speakers will make presentations, including Dr Michael O’Cuill, leading expert in dementia in Westmeath, and Eamonn Brady, pharmacist at Whelehans Pharmacy, Mullingar.
There will also be contributions from local nurses, carers, and staff from The Alzheimer Society, and there will be an opportunity to ask questions.
Some time will also be given to promote the work of the society in Westmeath, with a view to growing the scope and range of services provided for people living with dementia, their families, and carers.
