Temporary ramp in place during station repairs

A temporary ramp has been put in place at Mullingar Railway Station to cater for wheelchair users, following concern that the ramp had been blocked off due to loose slates on the roof.

The council has received assurances from Iarnrod Éireann station manager Jimmy Feeney that a temporary ramp is now in place, and that assistance is also available from staff to members of the public if needed.

He said the ramp had been closed off for safety reasons, as there were loose slates on the roof over the ramp which were “a danger to the public”. A portable ramp was originally put in place for those who needed help accessing the station. Following this, contractors installed a temporary ramp, and efforts are also underway to repair the roof.

Cllr Ken Glynn raised the issue at last week’s meeting of Mullingar Town Council, saying the ramp had been closed off for a number of weeks. He said he had been contacted by rail users who were finding it difficult to access the station.
