A Mullingar man who had 15 deals of heroin worth €838 in his possession when stopped by Gardaí has been sentenced to 11 months imprisonment.
David Wilson of 198 Ashfield, Mullingar pleaded guilty to a number of drug charges relating to various dates since January 2007.
The court heard he had heroin in his system when stopped by Gardaí at Naas on January 5 2007 on the Sallins Road, where he was seen to be driving erratically. Judge Neilan disqualified him for 10 years and imposed a five month sentence for this offence and a further five month sentence for having no insurance.
Mr Wilson had been disqualified from driving at the time as a result of a previous conviction for driving under the influence of an intoxicant.
The 26-year-old is currently serving a 22-month sentence imposed at the District Court and which he had unsuccessfully tried to appeal at the recent District Court sittings.
On various dates in the summer he was caught with heroin, varying in amount from one to 15 deals.
Ms Patricia Cronin told the court her client had “incredible difficulty with heroin” and was hoping to get work within the prison system where he will remain until June 2010.
For possession of heroin and possession with intent to supply, two 11-month sentences were imposed. All sentences are to run concurrent to the sentence he is currently serving.
