A new chapter in Ballinasloe pub culture

One of Ballinasloe’s most iconic bars opens its doors once again this week after a notable year of absence from the town.

The Auld Sod is locate in the heart of Ballinasloe on Dunlo Street and has been a haven of entertainment, sport, and good pints over its 70 year history. The bar has been a landmark in the community, and was recently acquired by Anthony Kilcar and Michael Drayne. Both business partners intend to return the bar to its original rustic feel - recreating that old world atmosphere in both surrounding and comfort.

When they bought the pub they wanted to recreate an old world rustic atmosphere, which they felt had been lost in some local bars around the country. They have totally remodelled the bar incorporating all of the old world features it once had, including its stone fireplace that’s had been blocked off for a number of years in the back bar.

When you come in to The Auld Sod everyone will be met with the same greeting and smile from staff. There is a great sporting history in Ballinasloe and the pub will show several sporting events in the bar at the same time - should it be required.

They have also developed an old world drinks menu as well as putting live entertainment on every weekend. Anthony and Michael hope to bring the crowd back to The Auld Sod once they open on Saturday evening, December 7, with live entertainment from The Blaggards.
