Facing 12 months for jewellery theft

A young woman who stole €4,373 worth of jewellery from her employer at Ennell Jewellers has been warned she faces 12 months imprisonment.

Mandy Nee of Edmonton, Killucan pleaded guilty to the offences of theft which occurred at dates unknown during her two-and-a-half year employment there.

The court heard the owner became suspicious that jewellery and cash were missing and installed CCTV cameras. Ms Nee was observed taking cash from the till.

When questioned she admitted the offence and later came to the Garda station with all the property.

Mr Robert Marren said his client had been working in the shop and had not stolen the items for her own benefit. He pointed out that when she was interviewed regarding one offence, she had admitted others on the same day.

The incident had come as a shock to her family, he said, where she is one of eight children.

Commenting that Ms Nee had expensive tastes, Judge Neilan ordered a community service report for May 7 but warned her that he didn’t like her “trivial” attitude in the court and said she was facing 12 months.
