Mullingar locals are set to host a coffee morning to raise much-needed funds for Goal Emergency Disaster response in the Philippines. The coffee morning takes place this Saturday November 23 from 10am-12 noon in The Church Restaurant, Castle Street.
One of the organisers of the event, Deputy Robert Troy, commented: “The extent of the devastation is beyond our imagination and people in Westmeath genuinely have special warmth for the Philippino community. Many members of our community are provided with the highest level of care by nurses and care assistants from the Philippines. We simply can’t comprehend what some families are facing in the Philippines and anything that we can do nationally and locally to show our support must be done.”
The coffee morning will be an informal chance for people to meet for a cup of tea/coffee and cake and most importantly donate to a very worthy cause. There will be a raffle on the day with great prizes being donated from local businesses.
Brian Fagan, who can’t be present at the event as he is travelling to Ethiopia for a number of weeks to help with aid work on the ground, said “This really is a catastrophe. We can’t grasp what people must be going through in the Philippines but the support and generosity that has been shown by the people of Mullingar to date is amazing.”
