Brigid’s make it four in a row

Roscommon SFC Final

St Brigid’s 1-13

Western Gaels 0-09

Not happy to settle with their historic All-Ireland winning exploits of last year, the current St Brigid’s side made yet another piece of club history by completing the four in a row with a well-deserved seven point win over Western Gaels. Yet again it was the evergreen Frankie Dolan who led from the front and played a big part in separating the sides with a personal haul of 1-4.

Benny O’Brien’s side were determined not to lose their All-Ireland crown within Roscommon but with a host of regulars ruled out there was a palpable nervousness around Kiltoom in the lead up to this final.

The opening half was evenly contested with the champs holding a slender one point lead at the break. Brigid’s flexed their muscle in the third quarter to give them some breathing space and when Frankie goaled late on it was game, set, and match for the fourth year running.

How they fare in Connacht remains to be seen but with a number of panel members due to head overseas it will be a big ask to retain their provincial crown. On this evidence however the hunger for success is still present and they won’t go down without a fight.
