Clann na nGael’s winning run continued in The Hyde last Saturday evening when they had five points to spare over Elphin.
Considering they lost out by 12 points to the same opposition at the same stage last year this was a good day’s work even if the overall standard left a bit to be desired. Donie Shine put in a man of the match performance helping himself to a tally of 2-7. The reward for the win is a semi-final meeting with none other than near neighbours St Brigid’s in what should be a real crowd puller. Wouldn’t it be great for neutrals particularly in south Roscommon and the Athlone area if this game was fixed for Kiltoom or Johnstown. What an atmosphere there would be rather than in a three-quarters empty Dr Hyde Park.
Reigning all-Ireland champions St Brigid’s got a real fright from St Faithleachs and will be glad to have advanced by the slimmest of margins. This might have been the fright the reigning champs needed and one suspects that they will be much more clued in for their next encounter against their neighbours.
