Galway to be watched by two million Indians

Galway will be seen by more than two million people across India later this year in an episode of popular food and travel show Will Travel for Food.

The show, which airs on Indian television network NDTV, will showcase the city and county in the episode after filming was completed last weekend.

A television crew travelled to Galway to capture footage at various locations around Galway and Ireland for the award-winning show. During their time in Galway, the crew visited Moran’s Oyster Cottage in Kilcolgan to sample some of the finest seafood on offer before interviewing owner Michael Moran about the famous Galway and Clarenbridge Oyster Festivals.

The entire trip was organised by Tourism Ireland with the crew itinerary designed by Fáilte Ireland. After their immersion in oysters, the group went for dinner at Ard Bia at Nimmos Restaurant at the Spanish Arch, had an evening of traditional Irish music at Taaffes Bar on Shop Street, and finally an overnight stay at the g Hotel.

“We are delighted that NDTV chose to film in Galway and Ireland. It is a wonderful opportunity to showcase our world-class cuisine and some of the many things to see and do in this part of Ireland to a huge audience of potential holidaymakers around India,” said Huzan Fraser of Tourism Ireland India.

The resulting programme will air to over two million television viewers around India later this year on major news channel NDTV.

Mr Fraser concluded by saying: “Television and film are recognised as strong influencers for prospective holidaymakers and Tourism Ireland regularly works with TV and production companies around the world to facilitate the making of travel and lifestyle programmes and films around the island of Ireland. The publicity value of a TV programme like this is incalculable – it is a really great way of promoting Galway and Ireland in India, helping to inspire travellers to come and experience the destination for themselves.”
