Minister addresses business community on licensing

Minister for Small Business John Perry addressed members of the business community in Mullingar yesterday [Thursday] on the topic of licensing for Irish business and how he plans to simplify the method by which businesses can apply for various licences.

The event, organised by Mullingar Chamber of Commerce and chaired by Pat Whelan, took place in the Annebrook House Hotel on Thursday morning and aimed to help businesses in Mullingar obtain a greater understanding of the new proposed application process.

Minister Perry discussed how there are currently 158 different licences required throughout Ireland and 34 different places to apply for these. The new proposed application process aims to create a ‘one-stop shop’ for business licensing, which is to be done through Enterprise Ireland.

“There needs to be a cutting down of red tape,” said Minister Perry, who later went on to discuss how businesses should approach banks when seeking a loan.

“First get endorsement from Enterprise Ireland, and then go jointly with your accountants and Enterprise Ireland’s support/ approval before approaching banks,” he advised.

The event rounced off with a Q&A session with Minister Perry and various business owners/ managers from Mullingar to discuss the topics addressed.

The Minister concluded by saying he would love to return to Mullingar later in the year to meet with a forum of bankers and local businesses.
