Jobs at risk at Cost Plus Sofas

The future is uncertain for staff at the Mullingar branch of Cost Plus Sofas, as the company announced it is to close many of its stores.

The store’s doors in the Clonmore Business Park were closed yesterday, with a notice asking customers to call a helpline number to enquire about outstanding orders and deliveries. The company could not be reached yesterday to comment on the future of the Mullingar store.

Mullingar is one of 23 stores nationwide potentially affected by the announcement. It is thought the company employs around 100 people nationwide.

Cost Plus Sofas announced on Wednesday that it is restructuring the business, which will involve “the closure of many stores”.

A statement on the company’s website said: “After many years serving the people of Ireland, we have taken the decision to completely restructure the business which will involve the closure of many stores”.

However it emphasised that all outstanding orders will be honoured.

“Existing customers please note that all current outstanding orders, contracts, and agreements will be honoured, completed, and delivered as agreed. All current guarantees and warranties will continue to be honoured.

“If you are awaiting delivery of an outstanding order, you need not take any action. We will contact you as soon as your order comes into stock,” read the statement.

A helpline is available for customers at (01 ) 4845633
