The first draft of the next local area plan for Mullingar, which will regulate and guide planning for the town up to 2020, went on public display this week.
This is just the second such document for the town since legislation in 2002 defined such plans as best practice in the wake of the planning scandals of the previous decade.
The proposed local area plan 2014 to 2020 runs to a total of 183 pages and covers 1,542 Ha (3,810 acres ) of Mullingar, and “sets out an overall strategy for the proper planning and sustainable development of the administrative area of Mullingar Town Council and immediate environs”.
The plan is on display at the county library and in the Atrium of the adjacent County Buildings until July 9, and members of the public are invited to make submissions [with their input] on this, and its related strategic environment assessment report, up until this date.
The plan can be viewed on the council website, or can be purchased in hard copy form for €100 from the Foward Planning Department in the County Buildings.
Submissions can only be made to [email protected] or by post to: Mullingar Local Area Plan Submissions, Forward Planning Section, Westmeath County Council, County Buildings, Mullingar, Co Westmeath.
