Judge Seamus Hughes has threatened to fill Cloverhill with Mullingar defendants who don’t turn up to court on time.
The judge was furious at the recent sitting of Mullingar District Court that three out of three local defendants weren’t there to answer their bail at 10.30am, when court started.
He threatened to issue bench warrants at the end of the day for the three young men who failed to turn up on time.
“People must come to court on time. They shouldn’t be afraid of this particular judge,” he said.
When one turned up shortly after, at 11am, he initially sent him out to get €400 cash to secure his bail for the next court appearance, but later softened his approach.
However, he indicated that he won’t tolerate lateness, and said “It’s time to firm up on this carry-on.”
