Flaw identified in draft trading bylaws

Trading bylaws for Mullingar are to be re-advertised after a flaw was identified in the draft which had gone on public display.

The council has been advised that it should have supplied maps with the Draft Casual Trading Bylaws which went on display in January this year, and has had to withdraw the draft from public display.

“The process has been stopped as it was flawed - we have to start the process again,” explained the council’s director of services David Hogan.

The council is currently preparing the required maps, which will clearly identify the two proposed sites for casual trading at the Fair Green car park and on Dominick Street.

The draft bylaws will come before the full council at the June meeting of Westmeath County Council before going on public display again.

Mr Hogan said there had already been “a lot of submissions”. As these will now be redundant, the council is looking into the possibility of contacting each person who made a submission to invite them to submit on the new draft.
