Mullingar’s Ashley Tubridy continues her ascent in the music business with the news this week that her latest song has been chosen for release on Aertv as its video of the week.
“Ashley performs her track ‘Light My Sun’ with incredible conviction and passion that you wouldn’t expect to come from someone so young,” said Karen Howley of Aertv.
Ms Tubridy - who lives with her parents in Greenpark, and won’t be 11 until later this summer - came to national notice in 2011 when she performed her own track ‘Friends Forever’ on The Late Late Toy Show, which subsequently reached No2 on the iTunes Ireland download charts.
Ashley has already played numerous gigs throughout Ireland, including a special event that was put on for One Direction star Niall Horan’s charity birthday bash last year, and has also busked with the other local star, Bressie.
“The song ‘Light My Sun’ is about a relationship between Ashley and her friend and how she thought that she was a true friend but it turns out that she wasn’t so nice after all,” Samantha Tubridy, Ashley’s mum explains.
“This person let her down quite badly and she was very hurt by what this friend had done to her. So an evening not too long after the event, Ashley composed this song using the anger, hurt and pain that she was experiencing to explain how she was feeling inside as a result of that day!”
Fans can look forward to Ashley playing lots of festivals and gigs over the summer months once school is out. Details of upcoming gigs as well as news of her EP due to be released in June will be released on her Facebook page.
Ashley started picking up the guitar at around four-and-a-half years old, and at about five would sit in her room and create music despite there being noone else in the household able to sing a note between them. In 2011 at the age of eight she became the youngest member of IMRO.
