Woman “breaches” bail of partner she reported

Mullingar District Court has heard that a woman who has reported her former partner for assault causing harm, is regularly visiting him and often stays with him.

This is despite bail conditions ordering him to stay away from her.

Judge Seamus Hughes adjourned the case of Yulian Kulev (39 ), 133 Abbeylands, Mullingar to March 8 for his partner to appear in court and explain the situation.

The Bulgarian national was in court on a public order charge relating to an incident at his former partner’s home at Lynn Heights on April 22 last.

Gardaí were called to the house three times and finally arrested him for failing to leave the scene and for being drunk and a danger to himself or others.

Mr Louis Kiernan said Kulev left the house because an issue arose between the couple and hadn’t planned to stay outside.

He was simply intoxicated and there was no malice or aggression in him being slow about moving on from the scene.

Mr Kiernan said his client had been the victim of a very serious assault which is still affecting him.

He lost his job because he was incapacitated for a while.

Kulev also faces a serious charge of assault causing harm against his former partner, but the court heard she visits him despite his bail conditions barring him from making contact with her.

Judge Hughes adjourned the case to March 8 for the woman to come to court and explain the situation.
