Hilarious play It’s The Real Mc Coy returns to the Mullingar Arts Centre

In June 2012 the Mullingar Arts Centre were treated to two sensational nights of sell-out comedy when It’s The Real McCoy rolled into town and the good news is that the play returns for two further performances on Friday February 15 and Saturday February 16 at 8pm.

It’s The Real McCoy is written by radio presenter Tommy Marren and has been the success story of Irish theatre over the past 12 months. With over 80 performances across the country, a trip to the United States, and sell-out shows this three-act Irish comedy has enthralled audiences everywhere it goes.

Set in rural Ireland in 1964 the plot centres around a domineering woman called Madge Molloy who has grown to have a distinct dislike for men! Mind you she has her reasons as her husband Tom - whom she was married to for a mere four months - disappeared without trace of reason. Madge was left to rear her only child Maura, whom she was expecting at the time of her husband’s disappearance, and has had to act as both mother and father. She is tough, uncompromising, and extremely set in her ways and her turn of phrase has to be heard to be believed!

The play is set over two days in the spring of 1964 as Madge and Maura are preparing themselves for the turf-cutting season. Her husband has been gone for almost 43 years at this stage but the arrival of a new curate in the parish - namely Father Michael McCoy - is about to throw some light on why Tom vanished and more to the point why he now wishes to return!

The plot thickens and with Maura now in love with the gormless local postman Martin Daly things are getting out of control on Madge. She also has to contend with the two nosiest neighbours in Ireland who appear at the most inopportune moments to add extra spice to an already bubbling storyline.

It’s The Real McCoy is without doubt one of the funniest plays you’ll see for a long time and early booking for this show is highly advisable.
