Volunteer and make a difference in the life of a young person

Foróige’s Big Brother Big Sister mentoring programme in Westmeath is looking for volunteers to help to make a real difference in a young person’s life.

Big Brother Big Sister is a mentoring programme that matches an adult volunteer to a young person aged 10-18 years. Matches are based on common interests and personalities. They meet once a week for 1-2hrs and together, they decide on the type of activities that they would like to do. Activities include watching/playing football, going to see a film, having a chat, listening to music, playing sport, going for a walk, etc.

The programme is based on the simple idea of friendship and learning new life skills. It is also an opportunity for a young person to gain support and advice from an adult in a friendly and caring environment.

Foróige’s Big Brother Big Sister has been operating in Westmeath for six years and in that time over 600 young people have benefited from the programme.

Volunteers are welcome from a variety of backgrounds, ages, and experience. Volunteers will receive training and ongoing support from professional staff.

To meet the demand from young people, Foróige’s Big Brother Big Sister is seeking volunteers from the community willing to give their time to a young person and make a difference in their life.

An information night will take place on January 24 from 7-8pm at St Mary’s Hall, Northgate Street, Athlone and everyone is welcome.
