A Mullingar man has been given a year to prove to the court that he can stay away from his family and out of trouble.
Judge Seamus Hughes noted that Damien Reynolds (31 ) of Cosgrove Apartments, Oliver Plunkett Street looked a lot better than when he appeared before him in 2012 charged with breaching a court order his mother had taken out against him.
He attended her home at Ginnell Terrace on October 10 last, despite being ordered to stay away from her and her home.
Reynolds spent more than a month as an involuntary and then as a voluntary patient in St Loman’s hospital following the incident, and the court heard he is now back talking to this mother.
He admitted he was very angry when he appeared in court after the arrest, and while he hadn’t visited his mother since, there were plans to meet up over Christmas.
Reynolds has previously been given two 11-month sentences for similar breaches of the Domestic Violence Act.
He said the latest incident happened when he confronted his brother about alleged heroin abuse and his mother became scared.
But he said his brother is doing “fierce well” and if he heard rumours again, he wouldn’t believe them.
Judge Hughestold Reynolds he had confidence in him, that he presented well before the court and “you strike me as a sound chap who will recover very well”.
