To celebrate the national week for libraries, Moate Library hosted a special art competition for local schoolchildren, and presented the prizes last week.
During the recent Children’s Book Festival, librarian Lorna Farrell challenged local children to let their imaginations run wild by designing a Hallowe’en garden in a box.
“The standard of competition was incredibly high with children using all sorts of craft with truly creative results,” said Lorna.
“Westmeath County Library Service would like to thank all the parents and teachers who supported the competition and say thanks to all the children who took part. With over 70 entries, many of which were on display in Moate Library during the last month, the competition was a great success,” she added.
Last week Ms Farrell was joined by Gearoid O’Brien, senior executive librarian in Athlone Library, for a special prizegiving.
The winners included: Susan Kennedy, Ronan Fox, Lorna Eagney (pictured ), Ryan Nagle, Colm Shortall, and Dean Broderick. Eoghan Shortall also received a prize for the “Design a Hallowe’en Poster” competition held by Westmeath County Libraries and Westmeath Environment Section.
