Padraig Pearses fall short in Roscommon hurling final replay

Four Roads 1-12   Padraig Pearses 1-09

On a weekend that promised so much for all connected with Taughmaconnell, with the hurlers and footballers both contesting senior county finals, ultimately it ended in disappointment as neither side managed to bring home the coveted silverware.

The hurlers were in action on Saturday in their final replay as they sought their first title since 1987. A fortuitous goal early in the second half edged Pearses ahead but Four Roads upped the ante and replied with a major of their own midway through the half.

Four Roads held a two point lead with five minutes remaining but Pearses refused to give in and reduced the deficit to the minimum as the game entered injury time. Another draw seemed very likely at that stage but two late points sealed a fifth title in a row for the men from Four Roads.
