Health fair in Athlone to raise awareness of primary care health services

Following on from the success of last year’s Athlone Health Fair a new one has been organised for this month.

The Athlone Primary Care Network and the Community Health Forum, which is a collaboration of statutory and community agencies, are facilitating a health fair in Golden Island Shopping Centre on Thursday October 25 from 3-8pm.

Community and HSE services’ staff will be on hand to meet and greet the public and offer advice and information.

There will be an opportunity to learn more about the Athlone Community Health Forum and its joint function working with the HSE Primary Care Network, as well as giving people an opportunity to apply for their group/association to become part of the forum.

Joe Ruane, HSE area manager Midland area, sees the fair as a positive step in working with the local community. “Engagement with the community is a key part of the Primary Care strategy and all evidence indicates that individuals and communities who are actively involved in their own health and health services have better outcomes in terms of health status.”

As there are limited number of places remaining, organisations or groups wishing to partake should email Joe Whelan at [email protected].
