Will you see Comic Potential in Mullingar?

Mullingar Student Players are proud to present Comic Potential at the Mullingar Arts Centre from Thursday September 13 to Saturday September 15.

This multi-award winning production - a sensation in London and New York - is one of the funniest and most inventive plays by grand master of comedy, Alan Ayckbourn. A romantic sci-fi comedy, the play is set in a television studio in the foreseeable future, when low-cost androids (known as actoids ) have largely replaced actors.

Comic Potential, which was Ayckbourn’s second venture into the realm of science-fiction, originated from the idea that the ability to laugh and the ability to fall in love are both characteristics which differentiate humans from androids. These characteristics are both illogical from an objective viewpoint, thus raising the question as to whether either of the actions occurring in an android would be considered a malfunction.

A hilarious satire of television and a touching romantic comedy ensue: Jacie Tripplethree, the lead female actoid (serial number JC333 ) is one of Ayckbourn’s greatest characters, her portrayer won all of London’s major acting awards.

The Mullingar Student Players have been hard at work rehearsing through the summer to bring you this refreshing, light-hearted tale - another in their series of highly successful ventures. Under the direction of Sean Lynch and Niamh O’Shea, the Players will see to it that you spend a thoroughly enjoyable night out at Comic Potential.
