The funeral of the young mother of four who died in a road crash near Collinstown on Tuesday is to take place this afternoon in Mullingar.
The remains of Caroline Cox were removed to the Cathedral of Christ the King in Mullingar yesterday evening, where her funeral Mass takes place at 12.30pm today, Friday. Ms Cox will be laid to rest in Ballyglass Cemetery.
Gardai have not yet established the cause of the accident that claimed the life of 32-year-old Caroline Cox, who died when the 4x4 she was driving overturned during an early morning school run on Tuesday. She had been driving her son Sean, whose 15th birthday it was, and her daughter Shauna (13 ) to meet the school bus at Skerries Cross to take them to secondary school in Oldcastle.
Sean and Shauna, along with her other two children who were in the car at the time, three-year-old Courtney, and seven-month-old JJ, remain in the Midland Regional Hospital in Mullingar. A HSE spokesperson described their condition as “comfortable”.
It is understood that the Mitsubishi Pajero jeep overturned on the Lake Road, a straight stretch of road between Collinstown and Oldcastle. Ms Cox was killed instantly, while the four children were rushed to the Mullingar hospital.

Local politicans have united in expressing their sorrow at the tragedy. “This appalling accident has left a cloud over the whole area, with the local reaction being one of shock and loss. I would like to extend my heartfelt sympathy to the husband and family of the deceased mother and to join in prayers for the recovery of their four young children,” said Deputy James Bannon.
Tribute was also paid to the rapid response of the people in the locality who came to the assistance of the victim and her family.
