Fined for being abusive to queue-jumper

A Mullingar man who was abusive at a taxi rank has been fined €800 and warned that if he appears before the court again, he faces jail.

Inspector Jarlath Folan told the court that David McCormack (21 ) of 55 Clonmore Heights was observed by gardaí at 2.30am at the taxi rank on Dominick Street as he was “extremely abusive” to the passenger of a taxi.

The inspector added that he was aggressive when gardaí arrived and continued to be aggressive at the Garda station.

Mr Robert Marren said that his 21-year-old client, who has previous public order convictions, felt that someone had jumped ahead of him in the queue and he was berating them. He said he felt that gardaí should have sorted out the queue rather than tackling him.

Mr McCormack received the fine for threatening behaviour and a charge of intoxication was marked proven and taken into consideration.
