Festival season is officially under way in Mullingar with the launch of the inaugural ‘Festival of Festivals’, which will see some 14 festivals take place in the town and its surrounds over the summer months.
The Mullingar Marketing group launched the Festival of Festivals, which will bring together several festivals and events in order to attract visitors to the Mullingar area and to optimise tourism opportunities.
Last weekend saw the first two festivals take place, with the Festival of the Fires at the Hill of Uisneach on Saturday, which attracted its largest crowds yet, and the first of the Kilbeggan Races summer meetings on Friday.
Other events planned for the coming months include Belvedere Family Carnival from May 31 to June 4, Mullingar International Horse Show and Country Fayre from June 1-4, Destination Sport from June 15-24, Mullingar Agricultural Show on July 8, Midlands Home & Garden Festival on July 13-15, the Joe Dolan Festival from August 3-6, and Culture Night on September 21.
Other events happening in the local area include Life Festival from May 25-27, the Boherquill Walking Festival on May 12-13, Streete Vintage Festival on July 8, Tyrrellspass Heritage Festival from August 24-26, and Green Village Music and Arts Festival on September 29.
